Emerging of the Bombshell Within

An eclectic view of a girl's life

A girl enjoying Autumn November 12, 2011

As time winds down to the end of the year, I find myself in awe as to how close I am to having been in Arkansas for a year.  When I moved here I did not think I would be here for this long.  Now that I have been here, I find that the more time has passed, the more that I like it.  I’ve really come into my own here.  I don’t know if this is where I wish to live forever and always but it has done wonders for my well-being and happiness.  It’s been an amazing change and transformation.

Now its fall and it’s definitely the season for changes and transformations as things get ready for winter.  With this season, I will have seen them all in Arkansas.  Spring is still my favorite season of all time but, seeing all these colors, I have to say that autumn comes in a close second.

PS: Go take a peek at the Stalker’s blog.  She has some of the loveliest fall foliage pics that I’ve seen from around here.

A girl who still has it November 11, 2011

Last month we hosted a potluck during third shift at work and everyone brought all sorts of delicious things.  Being the pastry chef, it was expected that I bring a delicious dessert into the mix.  At first, I had all sorts of ideas as to what I would make.  They all ranged in the super delicious but complicated category.  The closer the date came to the potluck, however, the less inclined I felt to put in tons of work into what I would be bringing.

So, I decided that I would take cupcakes.

Not just any kind but my red velvet cupcakes.

Weren't they lovely?

No sooner had I brought them in that people were eyeing them as some of the loveliest cupcakes people had seen.  They were irresistible and I soon began to hear things like they were the best cake anyone had ever had in their life.  By the end of the night people had been hiding the last ones so they could take them home with them.  What was especially funny was that one of the nurses had remarked, when she had seen the listing of items people were bringing, that “cupcakes” did not sound very impressive at all.

Guess I showed her.

A month later and people still speak of them in rapturous reverence.

And ask me when I will next be baking cupcakes.

For the longest time, I’ve just been a girl with a KittyCow.

Just the 2 of us.

But when I moved into a place of my own, I could not help but feel as if there was space for one more.  Initially, being the consummate cat person that I am, I thought maybe I would get another cat or kitten to go along with the Cow.  But the more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea of getting another cat.  My kittycow has been an only child and I didn’t think I would enjoy having another cat as much as I enjoy having the Cow around.

Plus, being a single girl, I really didn’t want to be that single girl with tons of cats around.

Much to everyone’s surprise, I began to wonder what it would be like to have a dog.  Once the idea got into my head, I found it hard to shake it out.  So, instead I spent weeks scouring the internet trying to figure out just what breed of dog might be right for me.  Then I began looking through local shelters and online ads offering dogs of all ages and sizes.  My major criteria were that the dog was of a breed that would remain small and that it had to be fluffy and cute.

Then I saw a pic of this face.

And quite honestly I can tell you…

That I fell in love.

I had the name of Cupcake picked out long before I got him.  The second name I had been considering was Sprinkles but I thought Cupcake sounded more masculine.  Not everyone agrees with me on this but that’s fine by me.  I got to choose the name and I knew from the start that I wanted a male dog.

So, 2 weeks ago, I brought home Cupcake, a shih tzu mix puppy.

With every day that goes by, I have to say that I’m surprised by how much I love him.  He’s sweet, playful and a truly jolly little fellow.  The Cow doesn’t like him but she doesn’t really like anyone.  He tries to play with her and she sometimes plays back.  I have high hopes that they will get used to one another but I’m not rushing it nor am I forcing them to like one another.  There is a large learning curve ahead for me as I have to house-train the puppy as well as train him in all the little things one likes their dog to know.  But I know he will be a good boy.  He learned his name in a couple of days.  The rest… will just take time.

A girl telling you what to watch November 9, 2011

Yesterday I mentioned a TV show that I’ve really liked this season.  Despite my not having a TV, I seem to be watching quite a few shows this season.  I catch them all over the internet but some are just shows that I’ve been seeing for several seasons- like House, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy. But two shows that I really enjoy and have found to be more likable than I thought have been two others.

First, there is Pan Am.

But this show I can’t help but wonder if perhaps I am more in love with the clothes and the era than I am with the plot and characters.  There is a tenderness to the show and I feel that it has a lot of potential.  Hopefully it won’t get cancelled any time soon and I can get to see where they will take these lovely stewardesses.  I agree with an article I read before the show premiered that this show has style to spare.  The scenes are beautiful and I wish I could get me some of those gorgeous outfits!

Maybe even a hunky pilot, too.

The other show that definitely surprised me was:

2 Broke Girls

This show is just downright hilarious.  They are snarky and pile on the fun attitude.  It’s not unlike how I talk with my friends.  There is a current feel to it and I really like both the girls in the show.  If you haven’t caught this one, I command you to get on Hulu now and watch all the episodes.

Right now!

Then come back and tell me how wonderful I am for having told you about it.

A girl watching fairy tales November 8, 2011

It is very apparent that there has been a flood of common themes amongst the tv shows this fall season and the hot thing this fall are fairy tales.  While one channel conjures up the image of the big bad wolf and all the darkness of the original Grimm stories, another focuses more on trying having classic fairy tales frozen in time and trying to adjust to a modern world.  Its no surprise that the latter is more squeaky clean and found on ABC.

Initially I gave both Grimm and Once Upon a Time an equal shot.  I watched both shows on the same evening and tried to keep an open mind.  The first episode for both was nothing to impress me but I knew I would give them both a shot.  To this date, I chose to catch up on Once Upon a Time first because of one reason.

Ginnifer Goodwin

She was the reason I tuned into Big Love for so many seasons and she was also the reason I watched the silly romcom of He’s Just Not That Into You.  She’s cute and delightful and I really adore her as Snow White in Once Upon a Time.  I will tell you this without giving too much away that the 2nd and 3rd episodes are much better.  So if you were not quite so enchanted by the fairy tales the first time around, I ask that you please give it another go.  It’s sweet and will hopefully prove to be a delightful show.

Has anyone else caught this show?

As for Grimm…

Can anyone let me know what I’m missing?

Should I give it another chance too?

A girl distracted by Oreos November 7, 2011

When I logged onto WordPress, I had every intention of writing a completely different blog entry.  I don’t know, maybe it was something about what I’m currently watching this Fall of all the different TV shows.  But then I got distracted looking over my stats for my blog.  One of the top entries visited today was one I wrote on the first of March and it was my professing love for Oreos.

While I have no clue why it would be one of my top entries today, of all days…

I was suddenly very amused.

Because on overnights, my coworkers definitely seem to know me as someone who is a near connoisseur of all things Oreos.  Whenever I go to the supermarket, I do not walk away with the same package of delicious Oreo goodness that I purchased the previous trip.

I make it a habit of trying every limited variety of Oreo that I come across.

Every kind except mint cremes.

Sorry, but I don’t often like mint & chocolate together.

And so it is that I experience I wide range of yumminess.

And I also happen to know more flavors of Oreos than anyone else I know.

Like, for example, did you know about the neapolitan oreo?

But even better is that since I last blogged about oreos, they came out with an even tastier variety of them.  Unlike the fudge covered oreo that is perhaps too much cookie with the fudge, they now have these:

Delicious Fudge Creme Oreos

These are truly wonderful; especially if you are the sort who loves the creme inside oreos as much as the cookie part.  Perhaps, if you love the creme more, these are the right hit.  I don’t know if it’s just my imagination, but it does seem to have less cookie and more creme and then it’s covered in yummy fudge.  The peanut butter cremes are a special delight.  They are definitely as different type of Oreo.  I have to be careful or I would eat the entire pack in one sitting.  And that is easier to do with the fudge cremes because the package is slightly smaller than the regular oreo package is.

What type of OREO is your favorite?

Again this was not an advertisement or paid endorsement of any kind for Oreos.  The bombshell just really loves them.

A girl falling back November 6, 2011

What would you do if you could relive an hour of your life?

That is the thought that occurred to me as I went to bed last night, knowing that Daylight Savings Time was approaching and we’d be able to do just that.  But it’s not like some Groundhog Day reliving.  Where you need to live the time again and again until you get it right.

Instead, it brought to mind the time-turner from Harry Potter.

Where you get to live time again, if only for a short burst.  However, you need to learn to spend it completely different from the first time lest you encounter yourself.

And likely blow yourself to smithereens.

The funny thing is that I had never thought of it this way before in my 25yrs of life.  To many, and originally this is what I had thought, it’s just a night where I get an extra hour of sleep.  But then I went to sleep knowing that my cel phone would not update itself on time until I turned it off and turned back on.  What I figured to do was set my alarm for 6am- since I have to work 1st shift and go in at 7am- and do the powering down and back up and decide then if I wanted to sleep most for my extra hour or use it somehow else.

Instead, I found myself awake shortly after 3am.  The fact that it was 3am always leads me to believe something mystical is about to happen.  Either that or I’ve heard the Matchbox 20 song one too many times.  As I turned my phone off and on, I realized I didn’t want to spend my extra given hour sleeping.  So I got out of bed and spent my relived hour making myself something delicious to eat from the leftovers in my fridge and playing with my puppy.

So, no…

My relived hour was not something profound.

Or maybe it was?

It allowed me a small hour of breathing room in the middle of my night to do something for myself when ordinarily I would have just considered it time between work shifts.  This weekend is especially chaotic since I agreed to work 4 shifts in 3 days but I did not set it up where I worked doubles.  Instead I gave myself 8hr intervals on and off for the whole weekend.  Now, many of you may believe that this is the norm for me… to always work too much.  This is partially the reason why I could not bring myself to blog for so many months.  All I was doing was working and that led me to have nothing to blog about and, when I finally was doing things worth blogging about, I was out enjoying those moments and not worried about writing.

How did everyone relive their hour, if you got one?
